A Secret from the Hospital Ward

I've been married for 10 years now and I love my husband deeply. We have a good life together with our two kids, but there's something that's been eating at me lately, and it might just break my marriage if he ever finds out. A few months ago, while working the night shift as a nurse in the ER, a new doctor joined our team named Dr. James. He was older than me by about 15 years, but there was something magnetic about him that caught everyone's eye right from day one. It started off innocently enough, he'd ask for help with some complex cases and we'd talk more about medicine during shift changes or when patients weren't around. Dr. James had this way of talking about medical ethics that made me feel like I was seeing the world differently, challenging my views in a healthy way. One night, after finishing my shift but before leaving for home, he asked if we could meet outside to discuss one last case he needed advice on. It seemed normal at first, just another conversation. But then, as we were about to part ways, Dr. James leaned close and said, 'I know this might seem out of the blue, but there's something more I need from you, something personal.' My heart was racing, my mind swirling with possibilities, but mostly fear and self-doubt. He pulled me into a secluded corner by the staff locker room where we were alone. The air felt charged as he confessed his feelings for me, how he admired my intellect and work ethic in ways that went beyond professional respect. I was shocked, both because of his admission and how it made me feel. Here I am, married with a family, yet part of me had been noticing Dr. James's interest in me since the day we met. He kissed me gently, and despite all my defenses, something inside of me melted. We ended up spending that night together, both knowing full well it was wrong but also impossible to resist. Since then, I've seen him a handful of times discreetly when I can, not nearly enough for what either of us truly wants or deserves. But every time we meet, the connection feels deeper, more meaningful than anything in my current life, even with my husband and kids. It's wrong on so many levels, but it also feels liberating to break free from societal norms just this once. I don't know if I'll keep seeing Dr. James, my heart is torn between loyalty to my family versus what my body craves in those secret encounters. But as long as he stays here and keeps looking at me with that intense gaze, there's a chance it will continue. For now, all I can do is hold onto this shame and secrecy, wondering if the risks are worth the thrill.
