Casual Dating Dynamics and Boundaries

I've been dating casually for a few months now. Nothing exclusive or serious yet, just meeting new people, getting to know them, exploring what fits and doesn't fit between us. I'm in my mid-thirties and have a medical background that sometimes seeps into my personal life, especially when it comes to analyzing interactions and boundaries. Recently, I started seeing someone who seemed to be very open about sex and intimacy. We had some amazing encounters, but as time went on, I began to notice that we didn't always agree on what was appropriate or fun for both of us. I'm not the type to push my limits just because someone else is excited about something. During one date, she suggested trying out a roleplay scenario involving a level of control and dominance that felt outside my comfort zone. After some back-and-forth discussion where we tried to find common ground, I admitted that it wasn't for me but expressed appreciation for her willingness to communicate her desires. The next day, however, I received texts from her expressing disappointment in me. She said she thought our relationship was about expanding boundaries and pushing limits together. While I respect that mindset, I also believe strongly in mutual consent and not forcing anyone into something they're uncomfortable with. We've continued to date but on my terms now, something she seems to be struggling with. I'm reflecting on this because I think it's important for me to be honest about what I can handle and be upfront with any partner, even if that means risking the relationship. Am I being too rigid in my approach? Is there a middle ground where we could both feel satisfied without compromising comfort or safety?
