Caught In A Web Of Lies

I was recently separated after my ex cheated on me, but before the breakup, I had this thing where I would make up stories about my past just to see how people reacted. One day, when talking about travel experiences, I claimed to have gone skydiving in New Zealand. My friends were so excited and congratulated me, while my then-spouse was oddly quiet. Later that night, we argued but they never mentioned it again. The guilt of the lie has stayed with me longer than the argument itself.
