Staying safe & anonymous

Anonymity here has two layers: what the site knows about you, and what other people can figure out from what you write. We control the first one. The second one is on you, and it's the one that actually matters for staying safe, so read this before you post something you'd never want traced back, especially if it involves a real partner, ex, or affair.

What we store (and don't)

• Anonymous posts and comments are tied to a randomly generated browser id, not your identity. We do log the submitting IP address for abuse prevention, but it's never shown publicly and isn't linked to an account unless you create one.
• If you create an account, we store your username, email, and a securely hashed password (we never store your actual password; see our Privacy Policy for the technical details). Your posts made while logged in are associated with your account so you can manage them from My Account.
• We don't require a real name, phone number, or ID to post or create an account.

What you should think about before posting

• Don't include identifying details you wouldn't want traced back. Specific workplaces, cities, usernames from dating apps or other platforms, or physically distinctive details can be enough for someone who knows you, or the person you're confessing about, to recognize a confession, even a fully anonymous one.
• Use a different username than you use elsewhere if you create an account. Reused usernames are the single easiest way people get de-anonymized across sites.
• Consider your device and network. If you're on a shared or work device, or a device your partner has access to, your browser history and any saved passwords are a bigger risk than anything we store. Private/incognito browsing helps with the former.
• You can delete your own content any time: from the confession/comment itself if you're browsing anonymously (the same browser that posted it), or from My Account if you're logged in.

If you see something that shouldn't be here

Every post and comment has a Report button. Reporting pulls it from public view immediately, before a moderator reviews it. You don't need to argue your case or wait for a response for it to come down. If you believe content depicts a real minor or a real non-consenting person, report it immediately using the "underage" or "illegal" reason; see our Content Policy for how we handle that.

A note on the content itself

Plenty of confessions here describe real things that actually happened. That's the point of a confession site. But anything written as fantasy or roleplay is fiction. If a confession describes something that sounds like it could be ongoing, real harm to someone, we'd still rather you report it and let a moderator make the call than assume it's "probably just fantasy." Erring toward reporting costs you nothing.
